Nice and bright, but too many functionsNov 05, 2010
By Richard M Estel There's not much to be said about a rope light. If it lights up when plugged in, it meets expectations. These are nice, big bright lights, and look good on the peak of my garage, where they function as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas lights.
There are two reasons they don't get 5 stars: There are eight functions, which are just various flash sequences. I would have preferred to have one function, steady light only. The knob that controls the functions seems flimsy, and I worry about its long-term survival. Also when I plug in the lights, they often start with a different function from what I had set the previous time. Then I have to climb up on a milk crate and turn the knob to each setting, go out in front of the garage and check whether it's right, and repeat till I get the continuous light that I want. The package came with some very flimsy plastic mounting clips, with "nail" holes that are just a bit bigger than a needle. I don't know how anyone could drive in nails without breaking the clips or a finger. I threw these out and used standard screw-in cup hooks, that work fine.
